Principal Bryan Newland served as a panelist on April 25 for the session, “Tribal Nations–U.S. Relations: An Overview of Federal Indian Policies & the Evolution from Federal Indian Law to the Robust Exercise of Tribal Law,” during the America’s Semi Quincentennial Celebration: Inspiring a Season of Civic Renewal hosted by the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission (VA250).

The discussion explored the historical foundations of the Nation-to-Nation relationship between Tribal Nations and the United States, from the pre-United States era and early diplomatic relations to the recognition of Tribal sovereignty under the U.S. Constitution, federal law, and key court decisions.
