Powers Director of Government Relations Joe Nahra presented this week at the American Council of the Blind’s (ACB) 2021 Legislative Seminar.

The two-day seminar focused on the political landscape and policy priorities for the ACB community in the 117th Congress. Joe’s session discussed Powers’ work with the ITEM Coalition to expand Medicare coverage for low vision devices. The ITEM (Independence Through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid) Coalition is a group of disability organizations, aging organizations, other consumer groups, voluntary health associations, and non-profit provider associations who advocate for increased access to assistive devices, technologies, and related services important for enhancing the health, function, and quality of life of people with disabilities and chronic conditions.

Joe is a Director of Government Relations in the firm’s Legislative practice, where he focuses on federal healthcare, rehabilitation, and disability policy and advocacy. Joe manages a number of national disability and rehabilitation coalitions led by Powers and facilitates lobbying and related advocacy events, including Congressional briefings and Capitol Hill visits.
