LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Wednesday, July 11

The House Committee on Appropriations held a markup hearing on the Fiscal Year 2019 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations Bill.

The House Committee on Natural Resources held a Legislative Hearing titled “Proper Administration of Water Facilities.”

The Senate Subcommittee on National Parks held a Legislative Hearing on S.3172, the “Restoring Our Parks Act.”

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs held a Legislative Hearing on S.2599, the “Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Reservation Restoration Act.”

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs held a business meeting to consider H.R.597, the “Lytton Rancheria Homelands Act of 2017.”

The House Committee on Natural Resources advanced a number of bills, including the “Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians Restoration Act of 2017” (H.R.3764), the “Quindaro Townsite National Historic Landmark Act” (H.R.5613), and the “Cormorant Control Act” (H.R.6302).

Thursday, July 12

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs held a Roundtable on “School Infrastructure Needs in Indian Country: Examining Opportunities for Success.”

The House Committee on Natural Resources held an oversight hearing titled “The Essential Role of Livestock Grazing on Federal Lands and Its Importance to Rural America.”

Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke announced the appointment of Eugene R. Peltola, Jr. (Yupik and Tlingit) as the new Bureau of Indian Affairs Alaska Region Director.
