Powers Welcomes 2017 Summer Associates

Powers is pleased to welcome the firm’s 2017 summer associates, Megan La Suer and Iris Micklavzina. Megan will work with the firm’s healthcare team, and Iris will work with the firm’s education group.

Megan is a student at the University of Iowa College of Law focusing on Health Law. In addition to studying for her J.D., she is also studying to earn her Master of Health Administration at the University of Iowa College of Public Health.

Prior to law school, Megan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and International Studies in 2014 from the University of Iowa. As an undergraduate, Megan spent a summer at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica in an intensive Spanish-language study abroad program.

In 2016, Megan was a Summer Law Clerk at Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman in Indianapolis, Indiana, and at Unity Point Health Law Department in West Des Moines, Iowa, in 2015. Megan volunteers at the Iowa City Animal Shelter, UIHC Children’s Hospital and in the Citizens Lawyer Program providing pro bono legal assistance.

Iris is a student at the University of Michigan Law School. In 2015, Iris graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and German Studies and a minor in Music from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. During her time as an undergraduate, she also completed a study abroad program at Universität Wien in Vienna, Austria.

Iris was a Judicial Extern for Magistrate Judge Becky Thorson, U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, in 2016, and she interned at Women Winning, a political action committee. In addition to speaking fluent German, Iris has volunteered with the American Indian community in St. Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, and coached youth baseball and soccer teams.
