Powers Associates Katherine Demedis and Janell Johnson have helped to launch the newly formed Women in Politics Committee of the D.C. Women’s Bar Association.

The mission of the Women in Politics Committee is to assist women interested in elected office by providing resources and information to WBA members who may be considering pursuing elected office or a related career in politics. The committee connects women elected officials at all levels of government with members and non-members through networking events and informative programming.

The committee intends for its programming to serve as a practical guide for women entering the field of politics with the goal of demystifying the process and increasing the number of women in politics throughout the country.  The committee also aims to increase women’s participation in the political process, whether or not they aspire to a career in politics.

The committee’s first event will be “A Conversation with Congresswoman Yvette Clarke: Running for Political Office.” Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke will discuss her campaign for Brooklyn’s Ninth Congressional District; her experiences on the Energy & Commerce, Small Business, and Ethics Committees; and her experiences with several caucuses.

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Jackson & Campbell, located at 1120 20th Street NW #300. Cost is $15 for members and $25 for non-members. For more information or to register for the event, click here.
