Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville PC’s Managing Partner, Peter Thomas, was quoted in Mobility Management’s article, “DME MAC Meeting: Industry Advocates for Individual Consideration of Seat Elevation on Group 2 Power Wheelchairs.”

The article reviews the Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractor (“DME MAC”) Meeting that took place on March 25. Cohosted by the Noridian Healthcare Solutions and CGS Administrators, the public meeting invited Peter to speak on behalf of the Independence Through Enhancement of Medicare and Medicaid (“ITEM”) Coalition, a network comprised of 103 disability-focused nonprofits created to address inadequate access to assistive devices, technologies, and related services.

During the meeting, Peter urged the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (“CMS”) to withdraw its proposed local coverage determinations (“LCD”) on Group 2 power wheelchairs, arguing it unjustifiably restricts access to medically necessary wheeled mobility equipment and would harm beneficiaries while increasing overall program costs.
