Powers Counsel Christina Hughes will present on Medicare audits and appeals at the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation Annual Conference on August 9.

The two-day conference includes sessions that discuss recent and proposed changes to the rehabilitation arena and other topics that affect the industry, including reimbursement systems, research, clinical information and Congressional activity.

Christina’s session, “Developments in Medicare Audits and Appeals,” is part of a panel on navigating appeals. She will provide an overview of the appeals process, suggestions for best appeals practices, and discuss new developments in the denials and appeals area. This includes probe-and-educate initiative, audits by Supplemental Medical Review Contractors and the OIG, extrapolation and settlement options.
