Dorothy Mooney is the Executive Director, the senior non-lawyer administrative professional, at Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville.
Dorothy leads the business operations at Powers and serves on the firm’s Executive Committee. She manages key administrative functions including finance, human resources, benefits, facilities, insurance, marketing, recruiting, technology, and overall firm operations. She also plays a central role in shaping the firm’s strategic direction and long-term growth.
With more than 25 years of law firm management experience, Dorothy is a recognized leader in the legal administration community. She is a Past President of the Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) Capital Chapter and the Capital Chapter Foundation. She has also held roles as Vice President of Business Partner Advisory, Chair of the Small Firm Administration Community, and Chapter Ambassador. Additionally, she has contributed her expertise to numerous ALA committees at the national, regional, and local levels. Dorothy is the recipient of several professional awards recognizing her service and contributions to the legal field.
In addition to her extensive management experience, Dorothy holds a Paralegal Certificate and has received multiple national legal writing awards, including the prestigious Westlaw National Writing Award. She is also an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the National Association for Law Placement (NALP), and the American Bar Association (ABA). She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Radford University and was awarded a national ROTC scholarship for academics and leadership through the U.S. Army.
Dorothy continues to drive strategic initiatives aimed at expanding Powers into a leading force in healthcare, education, and Indian Tribal law. Her focus on innovation and growth ensures that the firm remains well-positioned to serve clients in these critical and evolving sectors.
