Alyson Raphael is an Associate in the education practice group at Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville.

Alyson assists colleges, universities, and other education companies with navigating complex accreditation, federal, and state standards. She has extensive experience with the U.S. Department of Education’s Title IV federal student aid regulations, including as related to borrower defense response strategies, change of ownership planning, and incentive compensation compliance. Alyson assists institutions in meeting federal civil rights responsibilities under Title VI and Title IX. She also represents institutions undergoing accreditation reviews and appealing adverse accreditation actions.

Alyson received her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center in 2022. During law school, Alyson interned with the U.S. Department of Education in the Office of the General Counsel and with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She was also a senior notes editor for the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics, a member of the Appellate Advocacy Division of Georgetown’s Barristers’ Council, and earned the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Student Advocacy Award for her work in the Federal Legislation Clinic.

Prior to law school, Alyson spent three years teaching in Washington, D.C. as a member of the Center for Inspired Teaching and worked as an AmeriCorps service member with the Metro D.C. Reading Corps.
