Education Policy

Our education policy law firm practice at Powers works closely with clients to design and implement strategies to attain their educational and business goals within a complex regulatory framework.

Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville advises and represents educational institutions from all sectors of postsecondary education and provides a comprehensive range of legal services to assist our education clients with their unique needs. Washington, D.C. is where much of the legislative and regulatory activity affecting educational institutions originates, and we provide timely input and assistance to our clients on key emerging policy developments.

Our education policy law firm team consists of attorneys and government affairs professionals with decades of combined experience handling postsecondary education policy matters on the Hill, at the U.S. Department of Education, and at other federal, state, and accrediting agencies. When regulatory problems arise, we seek practical solutions and the avoidance, where feasible, of protracted proceedings. We emphasize negotiation and informal consultation as an initial approach to problem solving.

Much of our policy work focuses on the Higher Education Act. Our education policy team works with colleges and universities on legislative and regulatory policy concerns pertaining to Congressional reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, and we have assisted in drafting, analyzing, and monitoring legislative proposals impacting institutions and students participating in the federal student aid programs. We work closely with our education clients to facilitate strategic planning and operational changes responsive to legislative activities affecting higher education institutions.
