Powers Principal Peggy Tighe was recently quoted in two articles discussing repeal and replace efforts regarding the Affordable Care Act, as well as proposed changes to the 340B program.

The Law 360 article titled “5 Key Questions As ACA Repeal Hangs By Thread” discusses whether or not congressional Republicans will be able to move forward with plans to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and how they could accomplish the task.

In the article, Peggy mentions that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) could work with other senators on state-specific deals, saying “He has incredible power to bring things to senators.” Peggy also discusses President Donald Trump’s rhetoric regarding the plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

The Kaiser Health News article titled “Congress Squares Off Over Drug Pricing and a Controversial Drug Discount Program” discusses recent Congressional conversations regarding the 340B program, including proposed changes to the program and whether or not the program affects drug pricing.

The federal 340B program requires pharmaceutical manufacturers to provide outpatient drugs at a discount to hospitals and clinics that serve a largely low-income population. Advocates of the program say the discounts and their savings are necessary to combat steadily increasing drug prices.

In the article, Peggy notes that the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA, has been proactive in engaging the administration to shrink the 340B program.
