Powers Principal Peter Thomas was one of several expert speakers at the Brain Injury Association of America’s 12th Annual Brain Injury Business Practice College in Denver, Colorado, on February 8.

The three-day event brought together professionals from the nation’s top brain injury rehabilitation programs and residential/transitional treatment providers to cover issues affecting the current healthcare landscape. The presentations and speeches focused on how brain injury programs can respond in a way that has a positive impact on their organization’s survival and those they serve.

Several of the sessions included topics relating to current legislative and political threats and opportunities; the importance of advocacy and how it can impact businesses and access to care; trends in reimbursement and strategies to promote access to care; best practices in change management; and the importance of outcomes and process measurement in rehabilitation.

Peter Thomas, who has more than two decades of experience with healthcare, disability and rehabilitation law, legislation and regulation, spoke about the current state of government affairs for brain injury rehabilitation providers and consumers and offered insight to impending reform proposals.
