Careers at Powers
Available Positions

At Powers, attorneys work closely with other professionals and support personnel in project teams that focus on delivering superior legal advice and client service by the most efficient means possible. We strive to hire and retain well-rounded attorneys, professionals, and support staff who enjoy a balance of work, family life, and recreation. We pride ourselves on our friendly, informal, egalitarian environment where every team member is truly valued and respected.

Legal Recruiting

Powers seeks to attract the very best lawyers to help grow our top-tier healthcare, education, Indian tribal and government affairs practices. We welcome law students, judicial clerks, and practicing lawyers. We offer:

  • Cutting-edge work
  • Substantial responsibility and client contact
  • Ample opportunity for on the job training and advancement
  • A truly collegial, mid-sized firm environment where everyone knows and supports each other

Our practice is national in scope. We serve many leading healthcare and education organizations in all forms of administrative advocacy and litigation. As a mid-sized firm, we do not have rigid career tracks for our young lawyers, preferring instead that they shape and develop their own courses. Many Powers attorneys and professionals have extensive experience in the government agencies we advocate before including the Department of Education, Department of Health and Human Services, Food & Drug Administration, Center for Disease Control, Department of Justice, etc.

Summer Program

Our summer program exposes law students to the firm’s practice. By providing summer associates with challenging work, practical training and the opportunity to work and socialize with many of our lawyers, professionals and staff, we try to provide the insight summer associates need to make informed decisions to join us after graduation or a clerkship and recommend us to their friends and colleagues.

Applicants should possess academic and personal records of achievement that demonstrate a commitment to excellence. The students we hire are typically near the top of their classes and have excellent oral and written communications skills. In addition, we seek individuals whose personality, character, intelligence, judgment, and training will inspire their colleagues and clients to have confidence in their advice and representation.

Government Affairs Professionals

Powers has a deep, well-respected legislative practice. As with attorney recruiting, the firm seeks to hire government affairs applicants who have a commitment to bettering the nation’s healthcare and education systems, have significant Hill or regulatory agency experience and demonstrate excellent communications skills.

Paralegals and Law Clerks

Powers knows that paralegals and law clerks make significant contributions toward our mission of providing clients with the highest quality legal services at reasonable prices. We seek to attract paralegal and law clerk candidates who are highly motivated and possess superior analytical, communications and organizational skills.

Administration

Powers provides a sound infrastructure for the pleasant and efficient operation of our office.  We periodically hire in the areas of administration, secretarial, accounting, library, records, office services, and other support functions.
